TIME:
NCAA RULES
- 20 minute halves
- 1st half is running time EXCEPT time outs / injuries / referee timeouts
- 2nd half is running time / same rules as 1st except LAST 5 minutes will be STOPPAGE
- 2.5 minute half time
*OVERTIME RULES
- extra 2 minutes : each team gets 1 timeout :
TIMEOUTS:
- Each team will get 2 timeouts PER HALF. If you don't use your 2 in the first half, they don't carry over to the 2nd half. Keep in mind: YOU CAN ONLY CALL A TIMEOUT WHEN YOUR TEAM HAS POSSESION OF THE BALL OR IF IT'S A DEAD BALL! If not, it's a technical foul so please be careful. Same goes for if you don't have any timeouts left. (1 free throw and the ball to opposing team)
- Each time out will be 2 minutes but just use your judgement and keep the game moving.
- When it's a DEADBALL, both teams are allowed to call a timeout.
- The only time there should be a technical FT regarding timeouts is if the defense calls a timeout when the ball is INBOUNDS, OR if either team has run out of timeouts.
just to clarify: teams ARE allowed to call consecutive timeouts, and either team is allowed to call a timeout between FTs or after a made FT, or anytime the ball is being inbounded (out of bounds, after a foul. etc.)
SUBSTITUTION:
Ask a ref for substitution on next dead ball. You can sub as much as you want on any dead ball : doesn’t have to be your possession. ANY dead ball is time for substitution. If you do sub without letting the refs know, that will result in a TECHNICAL FOUL. (1 freethrow and the ball to opposing team)
ALTERNATING POSSESSIONS
On the tipoff, the team that wins gets the ball but the other team has the posession arrow. SO if team A wins the tip, team B gets the next posession. If team B gets a posession during the 1st half, then the arrow will go back to team A for the 2nd half.
FOULS AND FOULING OUT:
- 5 fouls and you're out. A technical foul counts as 2 PERSONAL fouls. If you get 2 technical fouls, you’re thrown out of the game.
- An offensive foul will NOT count as a team foul and they will not get to shoot a free throw. You just get the ball.
- 5 fouls and you're fouled out. 6 is NBA and we're NCAA rules
- 7 fouls by a team in a half is BONUS time. That means after 7 fouls, it's 1 and 1. NO DOUBLE BONUS. from 7 fouls and all the way until the half is over, it's all 1 and 1.
- The number of fouls gets reset at 2nd half. Technical counts as 1 team foul, and 2 personal fouls. So if a player gets a technical, that's 2 fouls on the person, but only 1 foul on the team.
INTENTIONAL FOUL:
- If you foul a player before the ball is thrown inbounds, this will count as an intentional foul. That means 1 free throw and the ball back.
- If a foul is dangerous and seems intentional, it will be 1 free throw and the ball back.
ONLY 5 PLAYERS AVAILABLE AND 1 FOULS OUT
*The team has to either make a choice of playing with 4 players, OR everytime the player that fouled out gets a foul, it's counted as a technical foul. So let's say player #13 gets 5 fouls and the team has nobody left. Everytime #13 gets a foul, the other team will shoot 1 free throw and get the ball back. *Player 13 will not get thrown out for 2 technicals since it isn't due to foul language or unsportsmanlike conduct.
- If your team is in the foul bonus and the #13 gets a foul, you'll get 1 free throw with nobody on the line, then go on to shoot the 1 and 1 as well.
TECHNICAL FOUL:
IF A PLAYER RECEIVES A TECHNICAL FOUL DUE TO CURSING OR TRASH TALKING, THEY WILL SIT THAT WHOLE HALF. If they get 2, they will be thrown out of the game.
- A technical foul will result in 1 free throw and the ball back
- *** ANY TRASH TALKING OR CURSING WILL BE A TECHNICAL FOUL THE FIRST TIME. NO WARNINGS.
PLEASE MAKE SURE THIS IS DONE.
- Any other form of Technical foul, such as slamming the ball, kicking the ball, throwing elbows, etc…) will just be a TECH and the ball back. They DO NOT need to sit the whole half due to this type of technical foul.
BACKCOURT VIOLATION:
- At Chodae it will be top of the 3 point line extended. At FDU and CITY SPORTS, it's the half court mark.
3 SECOND VIOLATION:
Only on Offense
CHARGING:
It’s not NBA so it doesn’t matter WHERE you take the charge. A charge is a charge even if it’s under the basket.
FREE THROWS:
*You can move on the release, except the shooter and the people on the outside of the box.
*6 in the box ( 4 defense and 2 offense) and you will stand up on box from the bottom like NCAA.
*Any player running into the box while the player is about to shoot, will result in a technical foul (1 free throw with nobody standing in the boxes and the ball back) REFS: give both teams 1 warning when it happens the first time. 2nd time it happens, it's a technical foul.
REFEREES
PLEASE MAKE SURE SOMEONE WHO KNOWS THE GAME WELL REFS EVERY GAME!
*Please call everything very tight. Use the whistle often and use it loud so every player can hear.
*If someone gives you a hard time, use your judgment on giving out the technical foul. DON'T be afraid to give out a technical foul.
*Let’s also keep in mind that we're not professional refs so captains, keep your players in check on what they say to the refs and how they react.
*Be on the lookout for certain things: cursing, 3 second violation, travel, trash talking, hand checks.
*If your ref's don't show up on time, your team will have 6 pts deducted before your game starts. If you ref AFTER your game, no reason to be late. (that goes for both refs so both refs have to be there on time in order to not have 6 pts deducted)
*IF BOTH of your ref are 10 minutes + late for the games ACCORDING TO THE SCHEDULE, your team will forfeit whatever game you play next. So if game time shows as 5pm and you show up 5:11, your game for that day will be a forfeit.
FORFEITS
Anytime a team forfeits, the winning team will get +25 on their score sheet and the losing team -25. Any schedule changes due to church events need to be told at LEAST 2 weeks in advance. ONLY CHURCH RELATED events will be excused.
MERCY RULE
The highest score that a team can win by will be capped at 25 points.
RINGERS
Any team that shows up with a ringer will forfeit that game. They will play the game out but the score will show a forfeit.
UNIFORMS WITH NUMBERS
All teams need to have uniforms with numbers: jerseys, or shirts. For every player that does not have uniform with jersey, the other team will shoot 2 free throws before the game. So if your team is missing 3 guys with uniforms with jerseys, the other team will shoot 6 free throws before the game starts. If they all have jerseys with numbers in the same color, we will allow that but anything else will be 2 free throws per person.
PLAYOFFS
how many teams to make playoffs TBD:::
WE WILL GO BY THE FOLLOWING ORDER TO DETERMINE WHO MAKES IT:
1. record (w-l)
2. head to head (whoever won the game during the regular season will move on)
* if there are three teams and all have same record, but A beat B and B beat C and C beat A… we will go by total point differential
3. point differential (whoever has the higher point differential + will move on)
4. hirer seed always has home court advantage (where they choose)
